This is a question we’ve been getting a lot from our NC Outreach Chairs– how do I link my NC page to the EmpowerLA.org website? If you have WordPress, it’s simple. This week, we show you how with a simple step-by-step.
Here is the EmpowerLA button / image, we’d like to see on all NC websites:
Log into your WordPress account. Then click on +New and then on the dropdown Media from the top gray navigation (you will only see this gray navigation bar if you are logged into your WordPress website.)
From the Upload New Media page, select the EmpowerLA button on your computer and when the image has finished loading, copy the File URL into your clipboard:
Then hover over the Appearance tab on the left side of your Dashboard and click on Widgets:
You will see a Widgets list that is available for your WordPress theme in the main area. You should be able to find one that is titled Text:
Drag the Text Widget onto the right side of your WordPress live Widget area. On the right side you will see collapsable Widget windows titled something like Home Page Left or Home Page Right. Insert the Text Widget into the appropriate live widget window.
Expand the Text Widget by clicking on the little arrow on the top right side of its window and paste the File URL that you copied before of the Uploaded button into the empty Text field.
Now copy this following code below your URL:
<a href=’http://empowerla.org’ target=”_blank”><img src=’http://empowerla.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/EmpowerLA-200-square.jpg’ alt=’EmpowerLA/></a>
Your Text should look like this:
Replace the bolded text <a href=’http://empowerla.org’ target=”_blank”><img src=’http://empowerla.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/EmpowerLA-200-square.jpg‘ alt=’EmpowerLA/></a> with your File URL which starts with http:// just above the button code, and delete the extra space above your code, which starts with <a href=
Your finished Button Text window should look like this:
Click the Save button on the bottom right of the Text Widget and check your website that the button is showing. If it is not showing, please check your code that all dashes and apostrophes are in place. If it matches the code above with your own image url, then the button should be visible on your website.
Here is Reseda’s website as an example, to show you what the button should look like once installed:
